sportEX is very excited to announce 
the full line up for the sportEX/SMA/BASRaT conference taking place on the 14th-16th September 2007 at the University of Bedfordshire.

Speaker highlights:This year we have not one, but TWO soft tissue practitioners travelling over from Australia.
  • Firstly we're very excited to introduce Rob Granter. When our conference panel spotted that the referees on his CV were none other than Karim Khan and Peter Brukner, authors of possibly the most respected book in the world on sports medicine, we were extremely keen to secure Rob's input. So when he confirmed his attendence - we knew we were on track to match, if not exceed last year's exceptional line up.

    ecent highlights on his CV include coordinator for Massage Therapy Services and the Athlete Recovery Centre at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006, he is director of the Australasian College of Soft Tissue Therapy, Melbourne and coordinator of Soft Tissue Therapy Services for the Victorian Institute of Sport, Melbourne. He is also a teacher in the department of Myotherapy at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.
     

We also have three certified athletic trainers and one certified athletic therapist travelling over from the US and Canada respectively.  These include:

  • Dr Mike Ferrara - director of medical services at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games 
  • Dr Richard DeMont - associate professor at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada and president of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association - www.athletictherapy.org
  • Gene Verel, athletic trainer to top national league basketball teams in the USA and the world famous dance troup, The Rocketts and international committee representative to the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) - www.nata.org
  • Dr Cathy Ortega, former physical therapist to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and president of the World Federation of Athletic Trainers and Therapists (WFATT)  

From the UK, highlights include presentations and workshops from:

  • Nicki Phillips, physiotherapist and senior lecturer at the University of Cardiff - turning the topic of her PhD into practice - Optimising the Return of Proprioception in Rehabilitation
  • Joanne Elphinston, physiotherapist and highlight of our first ever sportEX/SMA conference in 2003 - speaking on the issues of transferring core stability skills into sporting movement
  • Dr Philip Glasgow, head physiotherapist to the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland
  • Catherine McCrum, Feldenkrais Practitioner - speaking about the role of Feldenkrais in sports injury prevention and running hands on workshops on Functional Integration.

 Format:

  • Each day features 8 presentations and 4 workshops - with delegates being able to choose which of each they would like to attend. Please book early as the workshops are now filling up and we cannot hold places.
  • Costs range from £115/£130 for one day attendance through to £295/£310 for three day attendance
  • University accommodation at £25-£40 a night is available on a limited basis - again please book early.
  • We are also offering student rates (please call the office to find out more).
