Biray Alsac

Details

Our keynote guest speaker, Biray Alsac from the USA, is going to explain using practical case studies, how we can utilise social networking tools like these along with Bebo and My Space, to both promote, support and engage individuals in a wider age range than might be imagined, to get active and participate in your activity projects.

  • The anonymity available behind some social networks often encourages more wary or shy individuals to engage – this presentation will show how you can make use of this to reach hard-to-reach groups.
  • In 2006, 70% of 16-24 years olds used social networking sites – this percentage has now increased – if this is one of your target audiences, this presentation will be invaluable to you
  • If nothing else, by the end of this session, you’ll at least know what Facebook, Second Life and social networks as a whole are all about and have a new appreciation of how they could be used
  • And finally we promise to keep it easy to understand and jargon-free!

Presenter

Biray Alsac comes to us hot off the heels of the Games for Health conference, which took place earlier this year and where she was also a presenter. Biray specialises in teaching health, fitness and wellness professionals how to integrate internet technologies and social media in their own initiatives. Biray also works at an adjunct faculty in the Exercise Science & Physical Education department of Mesa Community College in Arizona. Her teaching area includes courses that cover healthful living and basic principles of fitness and wellness. Biray currently is the 2007-08 facilitator to one of the Faculty Professional Learning Communities (FPLC) on campus for New Media Technology, a group of faculty/staff who gather regularly to discuss ways teachers can integrate new technologies into their classrooms to improve student learning.
